Dohra Shoor, is Urdu for ‘double consciousness’, a term coined in 1987 by WEB Du Bois, the great African American sociologist and civil rights activist. It refers to ‘the peculiar sensation of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one’s soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity.’
