Anwar Jalal Shemza: A Circle, A Square, A Puzzle

  • Dulwich Picture Gallery London, SE21 7AD (map)

The first major museum retrospective of Anwar Jalal Shemza (1928-1985) in over 30 years celebrates one of the most original voices of post-war modernism.

Featuring more than 80 works, the exhibition traces Shemza's remarkable career across painting, printmaking, textiles, sketchbooks and archival material. His distinctive visual language merged geometric abstraction, references to Urdu script and influences drawn from both Lahore and Britain.

Exploring themes of identity, belonging and artistic experimentation, A Circle, A Square, A Puzzle offers a fresh perspective on an artist whose work continues to inspire generations.
